Hi readers! I know my posting schedule has been a bit off due to the holidays but should be back to normal starting next week-at least that is the plan. 🙂
Back in November, for Black Friday I went ahead and purchased my very first Tom Ford lipstick. I’ve read so many great things about them but always winced at the steep $50 price tag. That is, of course, until Tom Ford decided to release a pretty extensive limited edition collection of lipsticks (50 to be exact) entitled Lips and Boys. Granted these lippies are smaller than the normal ones (0.07 oz vs 0.10 oz) , but $32 seemed a bit more manageable than $50.
Tom Ford lipsticks come in a dark brown/black (depending on how the light reflects off of it) case accented with gold trim and the signature TF logo etched into them. The TF logo dissipates after a few swipes though.
The Lips and Boys collection is grouped into color categories: nudes to browns; silvers to blacks; metallics; light pinks to mauves; pop pinks to roses; fuchsia to magentas; corals to oranges; reds; violets to orchards; and plums. I settled on the shade (boy?) Omar which pertains to the metallics family as it looked perfect for the holiday season with flecks of gold.
The color was a bit hard to capture in pictures but this is pretty close. To me this shade is kind of copper with red and orange undertones and flecks of gold that give it a metallic finish. It has a slight vanilla scent, reminiscent of M.A.C. lipsticks. While the formula is hydrating and applies pretty smoothly, I didn’t find it to be groundbreaking but perhaps it could be because the finish is metallic? Whatever the case, I absolutely love the color! It stayed on for about 3 hours and didn’t leave a stain behind, only gold shimmer. Below is a picture of how the color looks applied.
Overall: I love the color as it’s unique and unlike any color I own. However, it wasn’t as long lasting as some of the Tom Ford lipsticks are made out to be. Again, perhaps it might be because the finish is metallic. I would recommend these as a way to try out the Tom Ford line though at a more wallet friendlier option.
They are available now online and through the following retailers: Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom and Saks.
*Note: These are limited edition so don’t wait too long if you want to try them out. 🙂
Have you tried any Tom Ford lipsticks? What is your opinion on them?
Have a great Monday,
Stephanie
Gorgeous Stephanie – love the metallic tones, shame it doesn’t last as long though. Still a beautiful product 🙂 Karen x
Thank you! Yes, it is beautiful though I wish they lasted longer.
So welcome 🙂 Yes, bit of a draw back – especially for the price tag. Have you tried lipcote? Might help it stay put for a little while longer! x
Forgive me for the question, but what is lipcote? Never heard of it but now am curious.
Really? Its a lipstick sealer that helps keep lippy on for longer – here’s the website to have a peek, I think they do other products too 🙂 http://lipcote.com/
Thanks so much for the info Karen! 🙂 It’s always great to learn new things.
So welcome Stephie, I’m always surprised at the new products I pick up through other bloggers! Good & bad lol 😀 xo
I hope to get a couple and hopefully they still have some in January. I have been on a “no spending” rule until January. I eagerly await next weekend when I can go back to the mall and my first stop will be Nordstrom to see if they have these. The metallic finish is nice but not something one could really use daily, it is like you said though very unique! I think it would be a great color for NYE when metallics and glitters are allowed all day! xoxoxo Janet
I’m sure they’ll still have some. I totally understand the no spending thing. I have to restrain myself from buying every new product that comes out. I have to mentally think, “Do I really need this?” The answer is always of course at first but then realistically, I think about how many stuff I own and I’m like, “okay, maybe in the future.” lol. Yes, this will be used for NYE- special occasions call for special looks. 🙂
Such a gorgeous color on you! 🙂 xo
Thanks Katie! 🙂
You’re welcome Stephanie! 🙂

Thank you! 🙂
Thank you so much! 🙂
Nice colour! Would love to try out a Tom Ford lipstick – as you said, the price tag is a bit of an issue so I really want to make sure it’s a great shade I’ll use often before I buy. Love the packaging!
Yes, for $50 a lipstick, it better be amazing! I may try one more because this one wasn’t as hydrating or long-lasting as others have claimed in their reviews. The packaging is gorgeous but again, not sure I’d spend $50 just for the tube, lol. Thanks for stopping by 🙂
You’re welcome 🙂 Yea, true about the packaging! I guess it’s just one of those things that you just have to have at least one of! 😉
Agree! 🙂
This is SUCH a pretty color!!
I agree! It’s pretty unique as to anything I own. 🙂
Call me crazy but I’ve never heard of Tom Ford and now I’m so intrigued to try them! I must look into this, thanks! 🙂 Oh, and the color you tried is gorgeous!
All I knew was that he is a designer and had a fragrance line but not a beauty line at first. Then, I kept seeing posts and reviews about Tom Ford lipsticks so I decided to check out what the buzz was about. They are $$$ so you’ve been warned, lol. Thanks! I love the color. Check out Nordstrom online-they should have them. I’ll show you next time I see you. 🙂
Impressive work and presentation! Bravo!
Thank you!
HI. I’d love to get this, but when I tried it in the store, it seemed to settle in my fine lines. The sales associate said it looks great layered, but I ran out of time and didn’t get to try it that way. I do love the color since it’s unique. I wonder how it would look layered over Gustavo or another creamier one.
Any thoughts? I’m very tempted. 🙂
Hi Lisa! Yes, this is one of those shades that are kind of like a metallic matte and can settle into lip lines. I absolutely love layering this over other lip colors, especially red as it gives them an extra pop. Gustavo is a dark color so I’m not sure how well it would show up layered over it but you can definitely try it out. My advice is to make sure lips are exfoliated before applying lip colors, especially matte ones. You can also add a little bit of lip balm for hydration. Here’s a post you may find helpful on lip exfoliation. https://stephieestie.wordpress.com/2015/02/13/skin-tip-simple-sugar-lip-scrub/
Thanks for stopping by and good luck! Let me know how it works out 🙂
