Labor Day Fun: TMZ Tour!

September 8, 2015

TMZ Tour

Happy Tuesday everyone! How was your Labor Day weekend?

Yesterday my cousin and I decided to drive over to Hollywood and take the TMZ Tour.  We’ve been to LA a ton of times before but when we read an opportunity to see the hottest spots in Hollywood, the Sunset Strip and Beverly Hills we thought why not?  It’s always great to see your city from a different perspective. So, armed with a tour guide direct from TMZ, we set out on this adventure.

TMZ Laila

A quick picture with our tour guide Leila.

Hotel Roosevelt

The Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel where Marilyn Monroe, Clark Gable and Carole Lombard once resided.  It’s also known for hauntings and paranormal activity.

Chateau Marmont

The Chateau Marmont hotel where Sofia Coppola shot her film Somewhere and were Tim Burton and F. Scott Fitzgerald have produced work from inside the hotel.

House of Blues

The music venue on Sunset Blvd, the House of Blues, will be closing its doors and making room for a new luxury hotel.

The Viper Room

The Viper Room-a music venue and nightclub that was once partly owned by Johnny Depp and known to be a hangout of the Hollywood elite.  This was also the site where actor River Phoenix died of a drug overdose in 1993.

Craig's

Craig’s on Melrose is one the celebrity restaurant hot spots.

Abbey

A quick stop in front of The Abbey Food and Bar where a waiter came with a silver patter of  chocolate chip cookies.

TMZ CookieI didn’t notice it had a TMZ icing scribble until I was looking back at the pictures, haha.

Beverly Hills

Entering Beverly Hills.

Rodeo Drive

Driving down the luxury shopping, dining and hotel destinations known as Rodeo Drive.  You’ll find Brioni, Chanel, Gucci, Harry Winston, Valentino and The House of Bijan (above) to which you need an appointment.  Only in Hollywood.

The Gym

The Gym on Nemo where Channing Tatum works out.  Sadly, no sign of Channing yesterday. 🙁

Mr. Chow

Another celebrity restaurant hot spot, Mr. Chow. Chris McMillan

The salon that is home to Jennifer Aniston’s hair stylist.  He’s known for creating ‘The Rachel’ haircut and a haircut appointment with him will set you back only $600 plus tip of course.

Sur Lounge

Sur Lounge, which is owned by Lisa Vanderpump of the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, offers a fresh take on European-Mediterranean dining.

The Ivy

Speaking of Lisa Vanderpump, the tour group spotted her having lunch at The Ivy.  Unfortunately, when I took the picture she had just turned around but she’s the brunette right under the umbrella.

Improv Comedy Club

The Improv Comedy Club where nearly every big name comedian has played including Billy Crystal, David Letterman, Jerry Seinfeld and Steve Martin.

FairFax HS

Fairfax High School that once saw Steven Adler (Guns N’ Roses), Matt Damon, Chanel Iman, Demi Moore and Slash grace its halls.

Hollywood

The last stop was a glimpse of the Hollywood sign.

There was definitely a lot more places we saw such as the Ago restaurant (co-owned by Robert De Niro), the, Osteria Mozzo restaurant (owned by Joe Bastianich and Nancy Silverton and Mario Batali) , the exclusive Soho House West Hollywood, and 1 Oak Nightclub but we either zoomed by or the pictures came out too blurry. Overall, it was a different and unique experience and I enjoyed it.  I just wish we had seen more celebs.

Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoyed this mini picture tour!

6 Things I've Learned as a Blogger!

August 18, 2015

Blogging

Hi everyone! I’m back! These past two weeks have been a rollercoaster catching up with friends and family, getting in plenty of workouts, my grandma being hospitalized for a few days-she’s okay now thank God-working, testing out products, and watching a couple of seasons of Parks and Recreation. It’s literally, one of my favorite shows at the moment.  If you’re a fan of the show, you’ll understand this reference. 😉  Also, I am now stephieestie.com which will hopefully make it easier for people to follow me.  Super excited about this!

While it was great taking a much deserved break, I must say it’s nice to be back into the swing of things which brings me to today’s post.  This moment away from blogging and a post written by Karen from Confetti and Curves (hi Karen!) made me reflect on 6 things I’ve learned so far about being a blogger.

Support Group

One of the biggest surprises I’ve encountered as a blogger is the immense encouragement and support from fellow bloggers, readers and family.  They are people from all over the world who are willing to lend a hand when you need help whether it’s  a technical issue, their honest thoughts on new products or accepting to work with you on a collaborative post.  Absolutely incredible.

New Ventures + Consistency

Starting a blog teaches you to reach out into an unknown world, forcing you to step out of your comfort zone which is a necessary facet to grow as an individual.  Luckily, as stated in the aforementioned section, there’s a great support group of people.  Blogging also teaches you that with consistency, patience and hard work, your little corner on the web starts to grow and opportunities you never thought of begin to present themselves.

Creativity + Vocabulary Skills

I’m constantly thinking of what could be a new blog post or what places would be best to capture the essence of a post and I really enjoy this.  With everything I read and learn, I get excited to share this information with all of you.  Having a background in writing, I’m used to making good use of the thesaurus and blogging is no different.  It’s a handy tool to have when you’re looking for ways to describe products not to mention an excellent way to build up your vocabulary skills.

Sharing the same interests…and fears

The most obvious aspect of course is that regardless of your interests, you’ll find people who share the same passion on the same subject as you.  As a beauty blogger, this means I can share my excitement about the latest beauty launches without that blank stare of indifference I normally get.  You also get to understand that the fears that plague you are also shared by fellow bloggers.  From something as small as hating the sound of your voice to insecurity, we’re all scared of something yet you’ll find that you begin to slowly overcome those fears or at the very least know that you’re not alone.

Picture Perfect

As a beauty blogger, showcasing pictures of products and swatches is vital and you really come to appreciate the art that is photography.  Now, while I will never be a professional photographer, I have paid attention to and learned different aspects about photography including product placement, lighting, editing, etc.

Can any of you relate to this?  Let me know in the comments below!

June Birchbox Unboxing + Weekend Wrap Up!

June 16, 2015

BB

Happy Tuesday everyone!  After a few days away from here, I’m back.  Hope everyone had a good weekend. A HUGE thank you to everyone who wished me a Happy Birthday! 🙂

Last week my June Birchbox The Tig Guest Editor box arrived and here’s what arrived inside.

Real Chemistry 3-Minute Peel

Harvey Prince Hello Body Creme

Oribe Cote d’Azure Fragrance

Davines Su Hair and Body Wash

Marcelle BB Cream Golden Glow (in place of Eyeko Fat Liquid Eyeliner)

First Impressions: I think this box is good but I’m not over the moon about it.

I love Davines and think they have amazing hair products, however certain ones cause a reaction so I am curious to see how this one works for me.

I’m always looking for lotions so the Harvey Prince body cream is also a good addition and I love the summery citrusy scent.

As you know, I l-o-v-e skincare but I’m not impressed with Real Chemistry 3 minute peel.  I’ll need to use this a few more times to give it a fair trial, but there is no special appeal for me. I haven’t used the Marcelle BB cream yet since I have a few similar products already that I am trying out but I’ll clue you in once I have a chance to use.

Last but not least is the Oribe fragrance.  For some reason, I thought this was a sample of the hair refresher and was one of the reasons I choose this box.  Sadly, it’s not and the scent isn’t the same as the one used in the hair products, which I love by the way.  The scent itself isn’t bad, just smells more like cologne.  I’ll need to test this further too.

One of the highlights of last week was my birthday cake made by my sister.  How cute and creative is this?  Love!

Sephora Cake

Birthday Girl

All in all I had a great birthday week with dinners, some shopping, attending a seminar at Dermalogica’s HQ, Disneyland and hanging out.  Now, back to my normal routine.

Are you a Birchbox subscriber?  What did you receive and what are your thoughts on this month’s box?

Success Is…

April 2, 2015

palos verdes day 2 2014 052

Hi everyone!  I have another quote I found and loved accompanied by this amazing picture taken by my  sister. Enjoy the beautiful California scenery! 🙂

Originally, I read the quote in Spanish but I translated it up at the top.  I think this quote holds a lot of merit.  Often, we equate success with material items and while I am not saying acquiring these things isn’t great, we are also successful when we evolve as a person.  Everyone has fears that hold them back from accomplishing goals but what were to happen of we decided to step out of our comfort zone? Would we grow emotionally, spiritually or physically?  Perhaps therein would lie your success and who knows what endless possibilities it will lead to!

Do you agree? What’s your definition of success?
